History Happens Here!

Upstate New Yorkers have shaped the history of America. Over the centuries, national events have had an impact on our local communities. Whether you are teaching about the American Revolution or the Industrial Revolution or social revolutions, the historical records of Upstate New York contain vivid local stories that can bring your classroom alive.

The Upstate New York American History Education Alliance wants to make it easier for American History teachers to find online documents, photographs, exhibits and classroom materials that relate to the history of the Champlain, Hudson and Mohawk Valleys.

Our database rates online resources for age-appropriateness and indexes them according to the New York State Social Studies Curriculum. You can limit your search to certain upstate counties or to certain types of materials, or you can find everything that is related to a curriculum topic.

NOTE: This resource database is still under construction. If you know of additional websites that you would recommend to American History teachers, please send us the URL links. We will only post the sites that adhere to established standards of historical accuracy and balanced interpretation. We welcome your additions and comments. We also welcome new classroom materials that can be posted online for all to use.
